A democratic state doesn’t come in until number five, and out of the top 10 seven are Republican controlled. The state of New York has a lower violent crime rate than the state of Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, South Carolina, South Dakota, and more.

  10. Do you think Biden or Trump could hold a press conference and somehow say something to stop murders? Even if they BOTH did that TOGETHER, I can't see how that will stop murderers. I mean, I am all for seeing those two put their egos aside, come together and try. But that seems like an ineffective plan. And trump would not humble himself long enough to do anything for the kids. He'll just use this to campaign, without trying to do anything to help. Like the border. Trump went there (a BILLIONAIRE) and campaigned, but he didn't give even a single million of his billions to help.

  17. @ I would say any time you shoot someone, you are going to be investigated. That’s a fact, and it is unavoidable. As it should be. In this example -as well as in your comment, the scenario we are debating would be a potential state crime not a federal crime. So you are correct when you mention states. State prosecutors and local prosecutors are holding public office, which is elected. They inherently do not want to take on cases They are likely to lose. Therefore our system is set up in a way that makes it unlikely to be prosecuted in this situation unless there is strong evidence that what you did is wrong. And that is the crux of what I am debating. It is not inherently a crime to use lethal force when defending your home / family from someone who has broken into it. These people who keep saying it is are at best ignorant, and at worst they are lying agitators. Hellbent on sowing fear and anger in our nation.

Most of what we have now comes from SCOTUS interpretation of the Sixth Amendment through the years. 1966 SCOTUS ruled in Miranda V. Arizona "...You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you..." I see the words "an", and "one". But hey, a former President of the United States insists that the criminal justice system "is corrupt", so NO ONE is accountable any more. Facts are established by whoever yells the loudest.

Listening to her demand to fire an attorney because the attorney wasn't speaking to her with respect makes me think her elevator does not reach the top floor. I doubt it is possible for her to feel embarrassed.

Florida is republican controlled (gov., both US Senators, and 62% of US reps.) It should be no surprise that there is blood on the walls of so many Florida homes. The ONLY thing Repubs do well vis-a-vis crime is blame the Dems.

  35. If "We" means Floridians, yes. But hey, the Governor there ordered a re-categorization of violent crimes two years ago. "Attempted murder" is now "unlawful use of a steak knife" and "forcible rape" is now "conducting a pro-life protest without a permit". As a result, Florida dropped from the 15th most violent state to the 38th most violent state. So nothing to see here.

It expressly says that a person may use deadly force if they fear serious bodily harm or death from an intruder in their home.
