Xi has correctly learned from Crimea and Hong Kong that the west will do anything to avoid conflict including condemn allies to occupation. Taiwan is too small to be partitioned, and as the wealthy care more about money than flags, I think they will prevent some of the destruction of the chip fabricators. If they are smart they will quickly cash out and flee before they get disappeared like Jack Ma. The economy will suffer in the short term, I don't know if it will get to COVID levels. Will World War 3 start over the South China Sea? No, because the west has already ceded it. Sorry Philippines and East Asia because you are back under Chinese power, and the west is too cowardly to stand up for you. Maybe Australia will spur some push back.
