The actual solution is older social norms, like arranged marriage and women not being educated.

@prohacker5086 France Secularised before anyone else. It's do do with social institutions and prioritisation, we no longer have courting, tight community support networks and the norm of marrying young, nor do we have the religious motivation to put a large family above personal comforts and career progression. There are a lot of factors but most are social, the economic side is more about self-perceived security and prosperity than anything that if real outside of how it motivates action. A society wanting kids would have arranged marriage, strong communities and families willing to live in a single room and spend very little. The problem is that people would like a kid or two as a lifestyle choice before they hit 40 but after they have done everything else. Financial systems can be fixed, dealing with the nature of the society itself is far more difficult.
