There are a lot of studies and have been since the 70's sex and violence are not at all the same in terms of normalisation, porn is more like watching gore videos than videogames, the psychological effects are massive and people quickly build up tolerances and move on to worse stuff.   7. Sexuality and violence are very different in terms of normalizing things, indeed given they you are defending it you likely already know that as it's on the level where it's observable. Porn use leads essentially to a tolerance building up and people moving deeper into depravity for their kicks, it also engains fetishes. Violent videogames are more at outlet for violent impulses than a magnifier of them, those they don't really help either. Both keep men, including possible predators of the street, by porn creates more predators, spreads depression and despondency and with the internet you don't need to be on the streets to cause harm. Turkey Tom did a video yesterday, I recommend you watch it as the whole thing is basically an example of the problem. The argument isn't at these point whether it is bad, it's to what extent, whether we should deal with it, and how, as I'm not a libreal I think yes and Jesus respectively, on a wider level banning it and improving society are needed.

  8. Of course this sort of thing is very hypocritically from western states who sexualise children heavily. The BBC outright supports children being shown porn and told to masturbate in primary school here in Britain, also like other media institutions they have covered up child trafficking cases on mass, and have a history of being an organisation filled with predators. On top of this western states are mostly certainly heading towards a relaxation of the laws Japan just strengthened as part of the LGBT campaign, in certain places (like California) they have already done so. All that said, two wrongs don't make a right and pornography is massively damaging. Just ban it all. Ban the sex industry too while at it, these are innately predatory both at the organisational level and in their wider effect on society. Largely they just seem to exist as a shelter for the yakuza and something to make highly questionable actions and aspects of society technically fall within the law, or better yet be hidden from it. It might be beneficial to the state to entice all the cockroaches into one sack but it hardly means anything unless you can tie it up at the end and have a cricket bat to hand. Such a tactic without the end amounts to throwing a funeral shroud over the areas of national life lost to you, and it's not like rot will cease it's growth of its own accord.

The legal history of the last century has been public opinion coming into line with whatever power did a decade before. Prohibition was full of holes and barely enforced, all it did was give incentive to criminal groups to increase demand. The political campaigning that lead to prohibition was more successful than it.

Unfortunately western media don't know the first thing about Japan and tend to always be pushing terrible policy suggestions on it, this is a case of a broken clock being right twice a day, especially as they have many sympathies with the opposite stance in their own country. I wouldn't be surprised if these articles were in fact influenced by Korean or Chinese lobby groups.
