I thought this memorial was supposed to be about Beijing. Why are 90% of the slogans about "Hong Kong Independence"? Talk about a hijacked narrative.

A better way to honour the past is to actually commemorate the lives lost in Beijing and not shout your own local slogans which have no relation to the event.

@gemhunter616 That's expecting too much. Some people there are still waving US and UK flags, just not on these particular clips. The actual quality of life in the US (where I live, by the way) is not an interest of theirs--they only want to attract attention.

Yes, it can happen, just like I could actually be Jabba the Hutt. But am I, and did that really happen?

I thought the HK protesters hate mainlanders. Oddly, on one day every year, I guess they take a break from hating.

@RecoveringChristian None of that even made sense. This is about what happened in Beijing in 1989. Not Hong Kong and not Wuhan in 2019.

@RecoveringChristian You're still making this about Hong Kong. This event is NOT supposed to be about Hong Kong. If the purpose was to remember the people killed, this is simply insulting. None of those people who died would be able to relate to Hong Kong's issues. Different place and different era. Notice how the older people who actually saw the events as they happened in 1989 are silent? The young "protesters" are the ones chanting Hong Kong slogans because they can't even be selfless for one night. Would you rant about not getting your promotion at your grandparents' funeral?

HK police simply face less life-threatening danger than US cops. On the whole, US cops are much rougher in my experience. It's just the nature of their job.
