  1. This guy has a wit about him, and even a slight sense of humour. That will help China’s diplomacy and maintain a human image, something that some other countries have refused to acknowledge for decades. However, he fires a fairly strong opening shot here by quoting the PRC constitution, and basically saying that Taiwan is a part of the PRC. This strays from past ambiguity where Beijing has only insisted on “China” and not specifically the PRC when addressing Taiwan.

  4. Taiwan is governed by what is officially the Republic of China, with the same constitution established on the Chinese mainland in 1911. This government lost the Chinese civil war and fled to Taiwan, one of its provinces, and remains there to this day.
