There are more empty houses being sold and speculated than there are homeless people in Sweden. The housing crisis is because of landlords and the market being capitalist. Investments always meant for profit (like how the stock market expects unlimited return and growth in a company) the housing market was a big cause of the financial crisis in 2008, and we have countless evidence that no private housing market is ever stable and will always form bubbles and explode every couple decades. The proper solution to never have a housing crisis again would be to decomodify the housing market, make a roof over your head a human right like Healthcare, and take back property that's just empty and owned by billionaires back in the hands of the people.

@yep9817 because people are kept out of housing, not because of the lack of houses but because prices are inhumane and inflated. Especially in sought after areas. Homeless people wouldn't exist if houses were seen as a citizens right, not a luxury

@yep9817 sure, but I'm not complaining about a family owning a home or a summer house they rent out. I'm complaining about millionaires who own 10 homes or more, and never live in them, only rent them out or sell them for profit and increase prices. That shouldn't exist. You can't live in 2 homes at once, maybe aside from edge cases of international travel. Private property in theory is fine, the issue when it goes to the extreme where a 10% of the population owns 90% of money and profit. It's not moral or sustainable Houses aren't super expensive to built. Carpenters and construction workers get a salary, but it's some rich dude of fund investing in the project. Then when the project is done they want to earn a huge profit from that initial investment. Without the need for that, the house prices or rent won't be crazy high because profit isn't the point anymore

@yep9817 it's something that needs to happen all across the world of course. Rich people are hated by the common folk in every country. They may want to flee to Mars, but the sooner we start the change the better. We chopped off the heads of monarchs and society improved, we shouldn't accept tyranny just because they have a lot of power
