With Wasp surviving (I-19 missing her in its torpedo spread) would mean she was present along with Enterprise and Hornet at the Battle of Santa Cruz. Having the extra carrier on the US side along with the assorted aircraft and escorts would raise the possibility that Hornet survives. Assuming she was placed in Hornet's task force 17, the extra carrier group would mean the planes from the Japanese carriers would have a tougher time reaching the two carriers. That won't stop Enterprise, Wasp and Hornet from taking damage (or in Wasp's case going up in flames). But again, it may mean that Hornet would be able to survive and be towed away. If luck she can limp away under her own steam. Especially the extra carrier means more planes can be launched. Therefore inflicting more damage to the IJN and possibly taking out one of their carriers possibly Shokaku or Zuiho.
