  1. If you really want to nitpick. You can argue that Wade McClusky, Earl Gallagher, Dick Best and Max Leslie won the Battle of Midway. As it was their Dauntlesses that planted the bombs that blew up Akagi, Kaga, Soryu and later Hiryu and Mikuma.

Leslie assumed that VS-5 was behind the main strike. Instead, they were held back for further scouting duties. If he was told they weren't coming, sources said that Yorktown's group had spotted Hiryu and Soryu. Then, he can order the rear sections of VB-3 to target Hiryu. While he leads the forward sections after Soryu. In real life, the rear section went after Haruna and got no hits on her.
