IJN: We will make our counterattack at night. Enterprise: Neat! Who are we attacking? IJN: The US Navy carriers......Oh no. Enterprise: Hiiiii. (Enterprise launches avengers)

@hirisk761 I still believe that Enterprise had been with Task Force 38 when the Japanese surrendered. She should have been the ship on which the signing had taken place (with Missouri as an escort). To add salt to that wound, the Enterprise vs Japan sign should have a caption "Enterprise-1 Japan-0."

@seanbigay1042 From the end of 1944 to the end of the War. Enterprise was redesignated CV(N)-6. The N stands for "Night Carrier."

I've been begging for a Deep Dive on this raid for years on the Patreon.

@bkjeong4302 As a form of revenge. VB-10 decided that New Jersey would make for a great Dive Bombing target. At least until New Jersey threatened to make the Dauntlesses as AA Targets.
7
@hirisk761 Still trying to add that to the video list on Patreon.

Because of the night attack. Enterprise came away with a third of the shipping kills from this raid.

@seanbigay1042 No problem

Q&A Had the Japanese, in a moment of overconfidence, blown off the recon Liberator sighting, and as such, the Combined Fleet was present when TF 58 showed up. How much more damage would have been inflicted, and what options would the IJN have going forward?
3
Yep and that was VF-10 "Grim Reapers." Who were assigned to Enterprise.
3
@bkjeong4302 Iirc LtCdr James "Jig Dog" Ramage (CO of VB-10) was the strike leader when he got the message.
3
@bkjeong4302 Enterprise rules over all.
3
F4U-2 Corsairs.
3
That particular squadron was VFN-101. Which was split between Intrepid and Enterprise.
3
@bkjeong4302 Well beyond Hailstone. One of VT-10's Avengers was shot down during the April Truk Raid and was rescued by North Carolina's float plane before being transferred to the Tang. The point I'm trying to make is North Carolina is Enterprise's waifu.
2
@bkjeong4302 North Carolina actually had a positive relationship with Enterprise. I think i head somewhere that it got to a point where Enterprise's crew would appeal to which ever Captain or Rear Admiral who happens to be in command to assign North Carolina as the BB escort.

@crazywarriorscatfan9061 as far as I know, Enterprise was the only one. However, she, Independence, Saratoga and Bonhomme Richard did do night ops.
1
Most of VT-10 would transfer to Night Air Group 90 and be back aboard Enterprise by the end of the year.
1
What squadron was your dad in?
1
@BullGator-kd6ge same.
1
That was the F4U-2 Corsair. An early nightfighter variant fitted with an Airborne Intercept Radar. At the time of Operation Hailstone, these Corsairs were with VFN-101 and are split between Intrepid and Enterprise.

Oh definitely.
