@BasedGauncho that’s like telling anyone who lived through the Blitz or the Holocaust to suck it up. Because the Allies (either Western or Russian) would eventually beat the Germans. They do but it was a long and very bloody process. With a lot of atrocities committed in that time.

@johnhargreaves3620 from I’ve read and understood. Nimitz had his eye on Spruance sometime before Midway. With the goal of having him as his Chief of Staff. Halsey, not only having worked with Spruance but was friends with him for many years. Combined with Halsey’s staff being kept aboard Enterprise. In theory it made for a winning combination that could back up Fletcher. Granted it didn’t work out as well as it should. But Nimitz was still pleased with the results.

@m.streicher8286 theoretically the allies could have let the Japanese burn themselves out taking over the Asia-pacific until they dealt with Europe. But politically and to an extent militarily, that’s suicidal. Especially in the aftermath of Pearl Harbour, the loss of the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
