The influence of the few corporations that produce meat and dairy is a good example. Their lobbyists have secured huge subsidies, and the US government even promotes meat and dairy! The video didn't mention that the USA is one of the top 3 consumers of meat.
I am one of the few Americans who eat a pure plant based diet.
I also recycle, don't fly, etc. Some of us are doing our part. They also found that the only dietary group that they studied with an average BMI in the recommended range was the vegan group.

"Livestock farming incurs large and varied environmental burdens, dominated by beef. Replacing beef with resource efficient alternatives is thus potentially beneficial, but may conflict with nutritional considerations.
Here we show that protein-equivalent plant based alternatives to the beef portion of the mean American diet are readily devisible, and offer mostly improved nutritional profile considering the full lipid profile, key vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients.
We then show that replacement diets require on average only 10% of land, 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and 6% of reactive nitrogen (Nr) compared to what the replaced beef diet requires. Applied to 320 million Americans, the beef-to-plant shift can save 91 million cropland acres (and 770 million rangeland acres), 278 million metric ton CO2e, and 3.7 million metric ton Nr annually. These nationwide savings are 27%, 4%, and 32% of the respective national environmental burdens."

"Livestock farming incurs large and varied environmental burdens, dominated by beef. Replacing beef with resource efficient alternatives is thus potentially beneficial, but may conflict with nutritional considerations.
Here we show that protein-equivalent plant based alternatives to the beef portion of the mean American diet are readily devisible, and offer mostly improved nutritional profile considering the full lipid profile, key vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients.
We then show that replacement diets require on average only 10% of land, 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and 6% of reactive nitrogen (Nr) compared to what the replaced beef diet requires. Applied to 320 million Americans, the beef-to-plant shift can save 91 million cropland acres (and 770 million rangeland acres), 278 million metric ton CO2e, and 3.7 million metric ton Nr annually. These nationwide savings are 27%, 4%, and 32% of the respective national environmental burdens."

@willmont8258 I am aware of the situation of poorer countries wanting to burn fossil fuels to increase their wealth in the short term. That makes it all the more important for those of us in the wealthier countries to make changes to do our part. For example, here in the USA, we should switch from being one of the highest consumers of meat to a plant based diet.
In the long term, poor countries like Bangladesh would suffer the most from climate change. "Often referred to as “ground zero for climate change,” Bangladesh ranked sixth on the 2018 Global Climate Risk Index, and for many Bangladeshis, particularly the rural communities in low-lying coastal areas, those risks are already unmanageable. Riverbank erosion displaces 50,000 to 200,000 people here each year. Thousands more flee every time a major cyclone hits the coast. The most recent came in the midst of the Rohingya refugee crisis last May, and there were at least 12 others dating back to 1965. Not only do the intensifying storms destroy homes and livelihoods, but they also contribute to higher water and soil salinity. We now waste a huge percentage of the crops we grow to fatten animals for slaughter, and for dairy and egg production. We get fewer calories and grams of protein from eating animals than we would get from eating crops directly.

@grmpEqweer I agree with you about the most effective way to encourage most Americans (people in South America would call us North Americans) to eat less meat or none at all is by pointing out the health aspects. I might not have switched to a purely plant based diet if I hadn't had a health scare which prompted me to research how to tip the odds in my favor between a series of tests for a possible cancer diagnosis. I live in the USA, and was raised to think that eating meat was needed to thrive. I learned that vegans have lower rates of ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and multiple types of cancer.
I switched to a mostly plant based diet at that point. When the tests proved negative, I stayed on the diet for the health benefits, and because I felt more energy. I then did some more research as to why others go pure vegan, and realized that it was the only ethical choice for our environment, and for animal welfare. When I cut out the last of the animals from my diet, I felt fewer backaches, and joint pain caused by eating animals. Many plant based athletes have found that they recover quicker from hard workouts on a plant based diet. I have too. I don't get sore muscles anymore after a hard workout. I'm in my mid 60's and need no meds. I love to exercise including hiking, chin ups, and Freestyle Frisbee. Both of my living siblings have some combination of heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. I have never had those health problems.
