If Thom likes Thomas Jefferson so much he should really hear what this historian has to say about the modern day politician is most similar to Jefferson. watch?v=4RiBWVxbH8c

@disrxt Fascism is an old philosophy once called "Actual Idealism" philosophy was the philosophy of Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Charlemagne, Napoleon and even the Roman Empire, just to name a few before TJs time. They just didn't use the term. Again, it's all out on Wikipedia.

@disrxt When I mention Wikipedia, it's not even a statistic I mention, but rather Thomas Jefferson's general principles. Even WhiteHouse (dot) gov says Thomas Jefferson was a "powerful advocate of liberty". It very easy to see that he was maybe a left-leaning libertarian, but certainly not a progressive. Modern-day progressives do not believe in both economic and social liberties. They don't even believe in social/civil liberties in many cases. TJ was not an advocate for the state.

@hollywoodt00 That's why we should be opposed to the military industrial complex, oil companies that get subsidies, ethanol companies who want tax dollars, banker bailouts (TJ was really against central banks) and any company that wants special privileges. It's against everything the free market stands for.

@disrxt It also makes perfect sense that since the beginning of the formation of governments they have been corrupted by business entities for the direct benefit of the businesses. It's natural for some businesses to gain political favor. That's why we must oppose them from corrupting our government. Thom expands on Jefferson in another video here to help clarify this issue on how government protects our liberties: watch?v=VBZTeEviWcE

@hollywoodt00 If there is anything false with what I stated, refute it.

Thomas Jefferson was against government tyranny (war, fascism, etc.) and for liberty. He was for Constitutional, limited government classical liberal. From Wikipedia: "A proper government, for Jefferson, is one that not only prohibits individuals in society from infringing on the liberty of other individuals, but also restrains itself from diminishing individual liberty." The big negatives about Jefferson is he owned slaves, and didn't believe in equality for women in politics.

@captcrais101 I do know that Jefferson believed in government schooling, and created the Embargo Act, forced assimilation of Indian tribes, was involved in the Louisiana Purchase, etc. I know it. But if you look at most of the issues, he believed in liberty. After all I've read and heard he believed in Constitutional, limited government. That's what the Constitution and Declaration of Independence was all about. Jefferson was not a modern day progressive but more classically liberal.
