@nikkinew123 My medical problems are because I eat too much and not enough healthy foods. So first, I am to blame for my own health. Second, I agree with you that corporations have screwed up health care, by lobbying the government to create laws that favor their industry, and squashing small business.

After 35 years, did this guy even save any money? Or did he spend it? I can understand if you're a younger college kid having trouble since unemployment is higher for those 18-25 yrs. old. If he just saved money. He had PLENTY of time. I made only 30K for several years, but was still able to save money, while living in a nice area. Got to watch spending. At this point, I'd recommend he live with family and find odd jobs like most near retirement.

@ArtetlaMusique87 If he doesn't have a family, all the more reason to save money. Even if he can't get a job a McDonalds, find work online, or sell personal things on eBay, or change his career. A job can't be guaranteed forever. Grocery and energy bills are up because of inflation, due to monetary policy (QE1 & QE2). Unfortunately, money printing is going to make life for this guy much harder. When you have 35 years to save, he should have done it. You can't depend on government forever.

@MaryJesusJoseph I feel bad for this guy. But it still begs the question, why didn't he save money for 35 years? He's fortunate to even have the opportunity to have worked since nearly 16% of the work force is out of work or short of full-time work. And if people kept their money in the markets after the "bank meltdown" the market came back, including my own funds. If they have medical bills it's because of this screwed up government/corporate system we have, which is another debate.

@NoogLeader I agree. We need to back the currency, otherwise people will continue to get poorer and poorer, while the bankers get the bailouts and the politically connected get "stimulus". Yes, let's at least balance the budget.

@MaryJesusJoseph I'm simply asking questions. Anything wrong with asking questions? We should ask... who is going to manage and take responsibility for your life... The individual/community/family or a politician? Who has more compassion... you, your family, church or neighbor... or the corrupted politician? Who can allocate money to individuals better... individuals/family/community or bureaucrats? Last time I checked charities give 90% while government gives far less.

@MaryJesusJoseph What I'd like to see is more people keep more of what they earn, so they don't have to beg for cash. Then they wouldn't need assistance, but be more self-reliable. I know there will always be people who need help, and that's where charity, family and community come in.

@PhilJRose Thanks for your sophisticated debate with name calling.

@redsunflower67 I'm 33 and probably going to get diabetes since I'm about 70 pounds overweight, so I am anticipating paying out tens of thousands of dollars in costs, just in prescriptions. That's why I need to work out more to hopefully prevent it. I'm working on it.
