  1. Good to see at least Taiwan's 'high art' scene seems thriving. I think 24 million person Taiwan punches WAY ABOVE its weight in electronics (mostly due to TSMC and Foxconn/Pegatron/Wistron), but punches WAY BELOW its weight when it comes to pop culture exports. Even 51 million person South Korea has produced "K-Pop" music. Meanwhile 126 million person Japan is highly influential -- generating huge amounts of video games (Nintendo and Sony PlayStation), anime (cartoons), and manga (comic books) including internationally recognizable characters like Super Mario and the pokemon Pikachu, generating billions of dollars of export income and huge amounts of soft power. Some Japanese media also get adapted into high budget Hollywood movies, like 'Edge of Tomorrow' starring Tom Cruise. I feel Taiwan could do much better in this regard.
