  8.  @fullytrapped.  This is for the Japanese. Japan has always been "one step away from possessing the nukes". A military alliance has already de-facto been created. If the Japanese troops are here, an attack against them from another country would be an attack against nuclear power. In our situation, when we have an army of about 20000 to defend territory of the size of USA (without Alaska), we don't have much choice but to form an alliance with a nuclear power (who knows what the Dems would do in case of a Chinese invasion in Australia ?). That's my best guess about what happened lately during the PM's visit to Japan.
