In republics, the President is the guarantor of the Constitution. If Australia was a republic, the President would enforce Section 92 by a decree, and all this rubbish with closed borders would be resolved by his signature on a piece of paper.

@doctortilda5618 The USA is a republic, and there is no dictator there: it is all limited by the Constitution. Remember that if there is an armed militia - a leader will appear, and he will become a dictator. A republic is better.

@harleydavidson3586 We must be realistic: the current decentralized system of governance is absolutely unacceptable. The Prime Minister must be made a President-like bureaucrat, with the same rights and obligations: he is the Commander-in-Chief.

@neverlostforwords Yes, there is a problem: how far can an executive order go. Still, my point is: if people's militia arises, then a leader will appear, and in order to stay in power he WILL become a dictator. That's the logic of the events, always. I was pretty confident that the Westminster system is better - until that "covid" arrived, and it became clear that the country is ungovernable. I stand for presidential republic.

@petesmitt I am afraid that you are over-complacent. The situation does not allow us that luxury. Please understand a simple thing: in a federation, any closed internal border is an act of war against the territorial integrity of the country. This is called separatism . In Ukraine, for example, it would be a crime (Article 110 of the Criminal Code), punishable by long prison sentences. The very fact that the Prime Minister is seeking a permission (!) to cross an interstate border means that the country IS ungovernable. The PM must have the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, especially since we are in an emergency. The Commander-in-Chief asking for a "permit to cross interstate border" - is a disgrace; it is totally unacceptable. I am afraid that the people in the corridors of power don't realize the gravity of the situation. If we are in an emergency as a nation - the parliament must immediately declare Martial Law and strip the state governments from all capabilities to disrupt free movement across the nation.

@petesmitt As I have explained, violation of territorial integrity equals a foreign attack. But, due to the arrival of "vax passports", it doesn't really matter anymore. "House divided falls" (C)
