Dear cops & bystanders - Anyone who starts speaking with a hoarse voice, or who has difficulty speaking (getting words out, not just some pain) or difficulty swallowing a short time after an attempted ch0k1ng/ incident like this, needs to go to the ED. It means the tissues in their larynx are swelling & they’re at risk of full obstruction that may require surgical support. You could hear the cop start to become hoarse only a few minutes after the incident. That wasn’t due to his asthma. Even that extent of shortness of breath post the incident was probably his body trying to counteract the effects, because purple/blue lips are a sign of a lack of oxygenated blood getting to the head/brain. And it gets REALLY unhappy at having that blocked off! Plus there’s the adrenaline effect which raises heart rate, blood pressure, breathing demand etc. If you have someone who’s just been through this kind of situation, sit them down, calm them down & get them to focus on their breathing while you watch them like a hawk! And don’t hesitate to call an ambulance if they start developing that hoarse voice or struggle to swallow or can only say a few words per breath & can’t say a full sentence fluently. Stay safe & help each other if you can!😊
