  2.  @johnwhitehurst474  Agreed and I would like to further elaborate. Bakhmut was a trap, designed by Ukraine, to lure russia into attacking a strategically unimportant city that was none-the-less very heavily fortified, and thus to lure them into the most efficient killing zone Ukraine had available in the region. It still serves its purpose months later, as designed. Here's how this trap was achieved.... After Lyman and all those other regions in the NE were liberated last Autumn, Bakhmut ceased being the key defensive city in that area that it previously had been. Look at the map and you can see what I mean, as the front line changed very significantly last autumn, in Ukraine's favour. That front line shift made Bakhmut strategically far less significant. Now, at exactly the same time that the heavily-fortified Bakhmut suddenly ceased to be so important, note that Zelenskyy went on public TV and said the very opposite. He was heavily criticized for drawing attention to the city like that at the time, especially by military analysts who could see that Bakhmut had lost its significance, and argued that Zelenskyy's words would draw unwarranted attention on Bakhmut from russia. Of course it's now become apparent that is exactly what Zelenskyy's hoped to achieve in making this apparently reckless statement. Bakhmut was the most fortified city in the area after all, and they couldn't let all those juicy lines of defence go to waste. So... Trap sprung! Massive amount of dead russians. It's still delivering results months later. I mean, have people never stopped to think how weird it was that russia chose to focus on Bakhmut, the most heavily fortified city in the entire eastern front (and hence by far the hardest to take), when they could have chosen literally anywhere else? They were lured into it and are too stupid to realise. It is really that simple.
