You never explain why Iran feels the need to acquire Nuclear Weapons in the first place. They are threatened on a daily basis by Israel and the US. The Americans have made it clear that they will go to war on Israel's behalf. If Trump get's one more term in the White House, this will become reality. Also, Turkey already has US nuclear weapons with dual key agreement.

@medievalogic In geopolitics, intentions don't matter. Only capabilities. Israel has the capability to kill millions of innocent Iranians in one go. Iran doesn't. Who is the threatened party here?

I'm not flat, stop asking I understand but you see, North Korea doesn't need Nuclear Weapons to cripple your country. Seoul is in such close proximity to the North Korean mountain ranges that some 40-50 artillery pieces would be enough to devastate it and it is estimated that North Korea has at least 400 pieces of artillery left from the Soviet era. If Seoul or any of its vital infrastructure is destroyed, the entire South Korean economy will be crippled and devastated beyond repair. So you see, getting your own nukes is not something that will solve all your problems. You need to look for other partners. You need to look beyond USA. Russia could be a great ally as they have borders with NK and have the ability to keep them in check. And an even better option would be to unite both Koreas. Of course there is the problem that all costs of reunification would fall of South Korea alone but if it is done right, you can also get North Korea's Nuclear weapons and with an even bigger population you guys could become a powerhouse and take on not only China but also Japan.

I'm not flat, stop asking It's true that Russia is quite weak economically but not in the military sphere. They have the best surface-to-air defense systems in the world, the world's only arctic army, and cutting edge rocket technology and space industry. Their rockets have proven to so efficient that the US actually uses them to send their own astronauts to the ISS. Climate change also works on Russia's favor. A warmer climate will lead to more agricultural land. Lands that were once frozen tundra, will yield tremendous agricultural output. So you see, they have potential. You are absolutely right about India though. The Tibetan mountains confines them and prevents them from reaching anywhere near Chinese heartland. There's also the factor of Pakistan to consider. The US could theoretically cripple China and its economy but not without triggering WW3 and in that scenario, South Korea would be in the same situation you are trying to prevent. Their Aircraft Carriers are great for gunboat diplomacy but nothing great when it comes to actual warfare. 1 carrier sunk would lead to dozens of jets lost, thousands of people killed, influence diminished and military capabilities crippled and they only have 8. It is undoubtedly their nuclear base in Okinawa, Japan that is deterring China and NK in East Asia. That base in what is holding up the nuclear umbrella. Not their Ships, or any other military asset. It is also true that there will be no united Korea so long as Kim Jong Un is around but he is not immortal. Just like everyone one else, he too will one day die and you are need to be prepared to take full advantage of it. Be optomistic. Don't abandon your brothers to the north. The people of North Korea have suffered enough. Push for peace with them. Peace is what will convince them to join you.
