Two politicians destroyed Sri Lanka, JR Jeyawardana and Bandara Naike, to get votes they fuelled hate among Sinhalese, without unity the country collapsed, War was the main reason, they spent billions upon billions on the war, it's too much for a small country, trying to become Sinhala Buddhist country, they became a Somalia. @Hypergamix Well Tamil Nadu Tamils did not have any problems, they were fine being with India. Eela Tamils fought back bcs of you know what. Thanthai Selva gave so many opportunities for peaceful settlements, Sinhala leaders hardly listened. For your info Dr Ambedkar said entire sub continent was the home land of Tamils, Sudarsan seneviratne and Arjun Guneretne admitted the island belonged to Tamils in the past. Tamils only need north and east, you can have the rest.

@Hypergamix Actually it's a Tamil New Year, whole south India used to practice for 1000s of yrs, even today in Tamil Nadu and Kerala it's practiced, usually on April 14 every year, they day Sun enter Mesha Rashi, the first Rashi of the cycle.

@Hypergamix Actually India was a headache for the LTTE, the training was not a help but a trap. India helped SL in many ways to finish the war secretly. If India had backed the LTTE like Soviet and China backed Vietnam, the LTTE would have finished the war in two months, in the 90s.

Gal oya incident of 1956, riots against Tamils in 1958, attack on the world tamil conference in jaffna, 1977 riots, 1983 riots backed by Gov., btw who lived in weli oya (manal aru) and what happened to them? Prabaharan burned an empty bus in the 70s, but in 1983 busses were burned and they were not empty, some of what u wrote is true, all of that came after these incidents, those were retaliation attacks, means same done by ur army. We know how Uduhampola and the state killed innocent sinhala civilians and now imagine how much warm welcome they would have given to Tamils.

@Hypergamix It's not celebrated like before, the DMK gov did not promote it much in recent yrs, they even introduced Jan 1 as the Tamil New Year, Pongal and Diwali are given more importance in TN, but former Tamils the Malayalese in Kerala, Telugus and Kannadigas still Celebrate Tamil New Year in April, they go by different names now.

How uduhampola men killed school children, 50 000 Sinhalese in 2 years, now imagine the figures on the Tamil side. You forgot what u did in Gal oya, 1958, 1977, 1983, 1984 in Manal Aru. The LTTE carried out over 200 suicide attacks, over 90% of them on military targets, less than 10% on economic and political targets, this is where some civilians got killed, collateral damage. Sri Lanka Army is celebrated as Heros by the Sinhalese, that include soldiers who supplied petrol to the mobs in 1983, massacred tamils in Manal Aru, so many more until 2009 where they rained down on no fire zone killing over 100 000, Sinhalese killed by the LTTE are under 5000 over 30 year period, now time to congratulate sinhala racist politicians and extremist monks. Don't forget Prabaharan only burned an empty bus in the 70s, it's the Sinhalese forced him to do some bad things after 1983.

@kaveenedirisooriya1590 Politicians and extremists wanted to attack the Tamils, destroy their wealth, the opportunity came when the LTTE attacked the army, if they were responsible leaders they should have gone after the LTTE, but they went after innocent people. LTTE took revenge for the black july, but they did not go after innocent people but mullaitivu base in 1996 and Katunayaka 2001 same late july.

@kaveenedirisooriya1590 Maybe LTTE killed some civilians but who started? Sinhalese paved the way with the black july, not one sinhalese was harmed before black july. I don't think every attack blamed on them were done by them, there is no proof, even the murder of Athulath was blamed on the LTTE, what happened after? They even staged something, forcefully gave cyanide to a tamil youth in their custody, dropped his body near the incident. They could have done many like that and blamed on the LTTE. They were desperate for propaganda.

@kaveenedirisooriya1590 Prabaharan tried his best not to harm Sinhala civilians, they killed over 40 000 army, how may Sinhalese died over 30 yrs? 4000? 5000? If they were after civilians the casualties would have been 10/20 times more, not ten times less. Beside most of their suicide attacks were on military targets, some on economic targerts, I don't think one single attack was aimed at civilians. They used their cadres who volunteered for the attacks, did not use children.
