If Tamils wanted a separate country they would have asked the British before independance, it's a complicated issue with muslim tamils and estate tamils in the south, separate country practically impossible, diaspora is not into dividing the country, in fact they can pay off half the debt if a responsible government is there, through investments and other things.

LTTE carried out over 200 suicide attacks, over 90% were on military targets, around 10% on economic and other targets, this is where some civilians died as collateral damage, other than that no attack aimed at civilians. No children participated in the suicide attacks, all experienced commandos. Even then they choose the best. If his or her siblings already died in the war then they don't give permission, when a team went to Katunayaka Prabaharan's strict order was not to cause any civilian casualties. Civilians are easy targets, if they can kill over 40 000 army, imagine how many civilians they could have killed over 30 yrs, but Sinhala casualties over 30 yrs by the LTTE not even 4000, so it's very clear they were not after civilians.

Only after that youths joined the LTTE and other groups by the 1000s, so who do you think pushed the Tamils into the war? Prabaharan said " I am not worried about the outcome, my duty is to fight back".
