How about getting rid of taxes that can be evaded or avoided? Nobody avoids taxes on land if they are properly constructed.

@standad7541 You obviously do not want people like him to be in your government but the EU creates the opportunities for them to thrive. Ex-PM Blair is another one.

@jakubkundzik3367 Any tax where payment is tied directly to the owner of the land title is proof against evasion. If the tax is not paid, the title can be forfeit ie the title ceases to be valid if the tax is not paid. Examples are the British business rate, the Swedish fastighetsskatt the Estonian land value tax, and the local land taxes which exist in Germany and Denmark. People and companies are mobile. Incomes and profits are impossible to define with precision - which is why tax lawyers earn such a lot of money. The idea of funding government by taxes on incomes and profits from individuals and companies is a dumb nineteenth century invention.

@standad7541 Czechia would thrive without the EU. You are paying well over the odds for your imports, VAT is a disaster for the economy of any country that imposes it and the CAP is destroying the landscape. Germany will suck your country dry, and even if the country were to get rich, WHO in the country would get rich? The rich would just get richer.

The people who really should be standing down are the politicians who have put in place tax systems which leak like a rusty bucket. Taxes based on the value of land can neither be avoided or evaded, yet outfits like Tax Justice have never proposed a wholesale shift from avoidable taxes to taxes which can be dodged through the use of tax havens. This is especially ridiculous when the assets consist of real estate which could be taxed directly as a charge to the title holder. Progressive forces are generally pretty dozy on this subject. The problem is systemic. Same with business grants. The system is wide open, but then this is inevitable when public money is dished out in subsidies. The EU itself is part of the problem.
