Singaporeans need the right to bear arm and more power to exercise their right to self-defense, including the use of deadly force to subdue a threat. SPF cannot respond quickly under all situation to protect Singaporeans. Singaporeans must have the ability to protect their own life, liberty, and property. Putting yourself in the shoe of the victim, do you want to have yourself chopped up with your hand dangling by a bone while waiting for SPF to arrive or do you hope that a good guy with a gun is among the few dozen brave men and women to save your life? A good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a chopper. Not everyone should have the right to bear arm namely convicts, people with mental condition, and minor. But people who want the right should be properly trained and licensed to carry a gun. There is no guarantee everyone with a gun is a good guy(The case of Koven double murder, a SPF officer is a bad guy with a gun), but it is a chance Singaporeans have to take to ensure their individual freedom is not violated by others. A gun also serve as a check against a rouge government. Singaporeans can now be a viable check and balance on the government with a gun in hand and not rely on the opposition parties to do that job.

@user-dr2ky4sw9p In fact, gun ownership is legal in Singapore. Only that it is almost impossible to apply for an open carry license with SPF. Most people are licensed to carry either as member of the armed forced, private security, or member of a gun club. Singapore needs to update her outdated gun policies and self-defense laws. It is absurd that a victim of an assault is legally liable if he/she exerts "excessive force" for self-defense.

@user-dr2ky4sw9p Members of the SPF walk around with guns in their hands. Do you feel safer with them around? Most people are by nature good, if not you would see a high crime rate in Singapore. People who are up to no good are in the minority and chances are they would not be issued a license to carry under a well though out regime. On the other hand, police can also commit violent crimes(case of Koven double murders). In the end, the positive benefits outweigh the negative outcomes. The minimum is to allow for Singaporeans to carry non-lethal self-defense weapons.
