1) Detoxification is not medically or scientifically proven. 2) {citation needed} 3) {citation needed} 4) Proven to happen, but does not have any medical benefits. 5) Unless you're starving, fasting increases fat retention. 6) It only temporarily reduces high blood pressure. 7) This goes with number 5. 8) {citation needed}. I'm highly skeptical of this. 9) Boosting immunity has never been proven scientifically or medically. 10) {citations needed} I know that most Muslims follow the practice of skipping Ramadan if it conflicts with health or other health requirements (if you're working outside in the hot sun, not only are you allowed to drink water, but is encouraged). I personally find the idea of atonement through deprivation or other kind of suffering to be really silly. Edit: I've been informed it's not "atonement" but some sort of religious exercise. I honestly don't know the difference, but I've been corrected.
