In order to work with children in Norway, for example, your criminal record needs to be spotless (I've heard minor offenses of a non-violent nature are passable, though). You have to get a police report stating as much, which you deliver before you can start working. I know this because I currently work as a substitute teacher. I've been kicked, cursed at and spat upon. It's rare but it happens. Never raised a hand to any of them, though, and I never will. So, I get to keep my job, and I get to look at myself in the mirror every day. Meanwhile I read comments below talking about how spitting is assault. Give me a break.

  2. If you can't handle being struck, yelled at or spat upon by kids, you shouldn't work in schools. There are messy aspects of jobs you just have to deal with.
