  1. World War II ships are far more survivable than modern naval vessels. The Laffey was hit by the equivalent of multiple Exocent missiles and yet she survived. HMS Sheffield was hit by a single missile and was a total loss despite displacing twice the tonnage of a Summers Class DD.
