You know what I'm angry about? - Sensational headlines - Misleading graphics (painting entire countries red, when they have only one or two confirmed cases) - Mainstreaming of conspiracy theories (such as the stupid idea that it came from snakes) - Failure to tackle scare stories head on (such as the even stupider idea that it's a bioweapon) Behaviour like this, on the part of mainstream media everywhere, including Channel 4, has helped to foster the environment of panic where people are now actively discriminating against innocent Chinese and Asian communities - where people are panic-buying supplies (hastening the arrival of shortages) - where people are actively disregarding excellent WHO advice and instructions from their governments.

  2. Did you break the caps lock on your keyboard? Flippant humour aside, there really is no reason to get so panicky about this virus. With proper treatment, the mortality rate appears to be well below 1% (yes, it appears higher in regions where the health system collapses under the pressure). The best thing any of us can do to help prevent the spread of this virus is to practise good hand hygiene, and avoid unnecessary travel. Self-isolate if you're sick, but don't worry too much about picking it up from strangers - you're still overwhelmingly more likely to contract the flu.
