I think they also want the homeless to be really, really uncomfortable. Toronto is expensive. Some people that are on the brink of not being able to afford housing would call it quits and use that as alternative. The haves want to use the parks as extensions of their homes they do not want to SEE the people. the first woman was well spoken, she does not strike me as someone that is a drug addict or mentally ill.

There is a growing movement of people doing stealth camping in their cars in cities. or dry camping on BLM land or National Parks in the U.S. (see Cheap RV Living channel). But the city campers cannot do it openly, they often expect "the knock" (police, upset neighbours) and do not sleep so well. The working poor w/o a home (or campers by choice if they are retired) often have gym memberships, do laundry in a shop, so they can even pull off a decent facade and hold a white collar job. quality food is an issue though - but maybe they have options to get warm food and only need a place to stay. Solar panels ? with a Led they can even read or listen to music from an iphone. it does not need a lot of power. And the bodyheat can warm up a small space. They would have been glad about such boxes in Texas recently. 20 F is around - 17 C - so I guess they can have that in Toronto as well. If they work they can go to a starbucks or a movie or meet with friends. But they need a safe and warm bed. (and avoid the costs of a camping site). That man was right, he is there, he is not ashamed of being there and he sleeps well because he feels much safer. Can't have that, can we. The shelters are not always safe either, and they do not have a space alone to themselves. Some shelters are also not safe for women. Or their stuff gets stolen. That first women seems to cope just fine. The second looked to me like a Native American. Let's kick her out as is the tradition with the First People ??
