Meghan McCain is unaware of the "misfiled" audio (that was found not so long ago in CIA archives) where McCain cooperated with the Vietcong (I think it is online). He praised them for the treatment he got, that audio was played to U.S. POWs in the camps. So veterans always knew about "songbird". Now, I would not condemn him - he had a broken leg and the slightly better treatment plus the medical treatment in the beginning may have saved his life or health. - but fellow POWs that did not give an inch were bitter. At least he refused to leave early - not before all POWs had been released. Either way: the audio has been found after having been "misfiled" by the CIA. In other words he was susceptible to blackmail, and he likley would not have had the political career had that been known earlier (but still the wealth of his family. Of course he would have been a stain on the family honor so to speak). Nor would he have gotten the medal after return. And the young very rich heiress (Meghan's mother) for which he divorced his first wife might have been not quite as smitten with the war hero.

homo sapiens is a deeply social being, we have an instinctive understanding and bias for "fairness". Follow economic discussions: the left wing union representative and the libertarian rich employer will for instance both argue with "fairness". They never say: we have the numbers or I have more power. That would be realistic - but they automatically argue with a "moral" argument. Of course we are also selfish and vain (in small groups of hunter gatherers evolution made sure that the social instincts by far outweighed those impulses). At some level McCain must have noticed that other girls - even in her circles - are more talented and intelligent. She must justify how it is right that SHE has been handed a position on TV on a silver platter. A position many much more talented interesting, intelligent, articulate ladies would like to have. Or that the very obvious (if unfair) rule that a woman must be attractive / slim that is obsolete for her. Whoopie Goldberg does not have a model figure either - but then she has made her name (on her own) and it wasn't based on being eye candy.

Talking about merit: Nader's grandniece got a degree in Copenhagen and just had started working for a charity / NGO. (Nader talked about it how intelligent she was and about her leadership qualities, I would take that at face value from him - he had seen her just recently). - She died in the plane crash of the Ethiopian plane.

@tsalon5864 it is possible that that claim - that pilot McCain caused a fire on a carrier with plus 130 casualties by a "wet start" = reckless start to make an impression - is not true. I wanted to mention it - but fact checked before. Of course it is possible that the investigation was rigged (with the admirals of the family pulling the strings, a military tribunal would have been a stain on the family military record). Or some trolls created the story. or it was circulated just because it was known he was present (allegedly even did good during the incident). I assume he was an entitled brat then and had enemies - so rumours easily pop up.
