Maybe the increased numbers are areas where Labour already had the majority, so good for morale but no increased political leverage, - vs. not gaining the desired majority in other councils (or even losing council majorities elsewhere). - Of course local and General elections are not the same. The main advantage of a landslide would have been good to shut up the backstabbers. As long as the local communites are forced to "manage austertiy" because they are underfunded wheile they have more to take care of, the voters often will not experience the local politics as helpful. Since it wasn't the prefered landslide I think the orchestrated witchhunt BEFORE the elections might be seen as a "kind of success" by the media and colluding establishment in the Labour party. Mostly these are MPs who still would like to undermine Corbyn *. The agenda of choice was "anti-semitism". I doubt it made a dent - Jewish people are are very small minority in the UK, and people KNOW that all the whining is for show, there is no harassment in the real world going on. Some nasty comments of the internet - and a lot of MADE UP alleged infractions. Which btw are made up the a certain Jewish clique and their helpers. People ALSO know how strong the Israeli lobby is - their activities were exposed in the Al Jazeera documentary The Lobby (end of 2016, this was a real blow). And the enemies of a really left leaning Labour and Corbyn - in the party and outside, Jewish or not - are jumping at EVERTHING. And if they talk at lenght about the alleged anti-semitism - they can avoid talking about the real issues. The British have a sense of fair play. And since the British also know that the Jewish people do not suffer here - the constant faux outrage campaign I think will backfire - also on the media. People are tired to hear about the "Jewish plight" in the U.K. - just to find out that the alleged anti-semitism was a critical comment on the policies of the State of Israel. The Al Jazeera documentary The Lobby showed such made up accusations. The highlight of the documentary was the comment of a lobbyist towards an UK politician (a Member of Parliament !! it think from Labour and for sure not from the Corbyn wing - the Corbinistas do not hang out with the Israeli lobbyists, they talk about Palestine) - The comment was: the Israeli lobby could take down Alan Duncan - we can arrange for a scandal. He was deputy Foreign Minister under the Tories, I think. And accidentally also critical of Israel. - This time the Israeli lobby had bitten of more than they could chew when they were threatenining someone with power of the sitting government and all secretly filmed.

Yes but it is a nice change in the parttern of "reporting". Else it would be anti-semitism, IRA, Russia, maybe Venezuela. Everything that the Brits care about, no ?

On the flipside: if they downplay the election results they do not engage in another witch hunt
