TV person: ".....insensitive" remark. - No, it is cruel and brutally honest. The staff member of the Republican is not supposed to say the quiet part out loud, and was reprimanded. (One could hear that he was impatient / frustrated to be pestered by people that do not have good coverage and are not young and healthy either *) * It is not clear if that staffer gets good healthcare from his job, but maybe he comes from an affluent family. And young and healthy people usually do not have healthcare on their radar. They usually can afford a gamble.

Republicans should learn from Democrats. Corporate Dems support the same cruelty (ACA is hardly better and since it props up the overpriced system it has has the death switch built in, so to speak). But neoliberal Democrats excell in the "I feel your pain" and "... access to healthcare is a human right" routine. While withholding the ONLY reasonable, sustainable, cost efficient good solution from their voters. (which is single payer = M4A) Serving the same donors as Republicans.

That was a Republican, the arguments are a dead giveaway. Democrats serve the same donors and screw the voters almost as badly - but they know to do the "I feel your pain" routine. So a Dem staffer would not have been caught. They are going to play that in attack ads come next election.

2 awesome comments - sadly they are true. (There is a saying in Europe where I currently live: I can't eat as much as I would like to puke")

One has to live in a single payer country to appreciate how fucked up the discussion about healthcare in the U.S. is. The media persons could not report correctly, in a meaningful manner if their life depended on it. The staffer made an "insensitive" remark according to TV presenters ? No, he was brutally honest about the ugly truth.

that is true BUT: the mantra is that private for-profit is always, always better. Never mind that the public non-profit hospitals and insurance agencies on 4 continents and since 70 years beat the heck out of the U.S. system. Healthcare is a terrible fit for the "Free market" and surprisingly well suited to be handled by public agencies. almost every first world country paid USD 5,400 per person per year in 2017 take or leave 400 dollar. That is some money, and it is also some range - but nothing compared to the cost for having the profiteers involved in healthcare. Per capita expenditures of the U.S. were 10,260 in 2017.

So the rest of Corporate World would have to admit that the ideology (that screwed people for decades) can be dead wrong. Big bad government can sometimes be better - much better ! - than private companies. And Americans missed out on it for way too long. What other articles of faith are not true ?? AND: it would be a win for the grassroots. That sets a dangerous precedent. the unwashed masses could get uppity. Next thing they will demand other things like they have in the other wealthy nations. Those nations are right on healthcare. Maybe they have a point regarding free college. Maternity leave, paid sick leave for all. 5 weeks paid vacations for all. Voting on a Sunday. Also: behind every industry you always have another sector (to avoid the word "industry", nothing industrious about them, they do not create, they extract). Wallstreet. They are important donors for the Democratic party. and of course plenty of bribes for the Repubs, too. Wallstreet would throw a tantrum if single payer would be implemented.

@Patrick The shareholders and owners of big biz have less profits because of higher costs of doing business (for healthcare plans). But that is easily counteracted when these rich people privately buy healthcare stocks. The rip off manifests here in excellents profits. For the OWNERS and top managment of big biz the ridiculous costs of healthcare and the wasteful buraucraZy, and the overpriced pharma prices are not a pressing issue. I assume especially the rich owners even have a net benefit from the arrangement. No one cares about smaller biz. For them it is different because they do not make so much profit (and often reinvest profits to grow). And if the owners privately invest into the stock market they have to diversify like everbody else (if they are smart and cautious). To really profit big time from health related stocks you have to invest large amounts in total (of which stocks - and of that health related stocks - will be only a small part). think the fortunes of the big shareholders of Apple, facebook, ... GM, Boeing, ... These people own so much stocks (which is only one of their asset classes) that they make a good cut also with all things health"care".
