Ideology is not a form of radicalization, but it is a human SEARCH for IDENTITY, COMMUNITY, and PURPOSE. - I think young people (especially young men) often have a willingness to SERVE society or a greater cause - even to sacrifice themselves, a free floating idealism in search of a noble crusade - and that can lead them to associate with very wrong and violent groups.

This aligns with the message of Johnny Lee Clary ex KKK - search with his name and ABC Australia "Enough rope", there are video clips (4 minute) of the interview on youtube - they are HILARIOUS and INSPIRATIONAL. After switching sides he became involved with the church (I think as reverend) and held speeches about how to win over people, especially young people - The original video (full lenght of the interview) is not anymore on the archive site of ABC, but they still have the transcript of the interview - very enlightening, regarding U.S. domestic politics, the infiltrated police AND the psychological reasons why someone would join the Klan and what (WHO) inspired him to leave. I highly recommend watching at least the 4 minute clips.
