@MS-gr2nv they did. Learn your history. There's nothing more heroic than fighting an unwinnable battle, against impossible odds for nothing more than the honour of your nation.

Agree. I know the empire had control of middle East oil. But via a tenuous supply route (as it turned out). I wonder when the north sea oil/gas was discovered. I assume after ww2 so not relevant. Probably a bugger of a choice for the admirals. Stay ahead of technology. But abandon the use of a prime national resource to do so...

This really does boggle the mind of an Englishman. I've seen 3 guns this year. All carried by specialist police officers, and I only saw them at large events where the police were specially deployed (they don't patrol the streets)... It's cool in a movie kind of way, that you can shoot guns over there. But I'll keep the lack of murder we have here over the fun of fireing guns personally 😂. Good tourist industry though "come to America imperialist scum. Fire some guns. You'll love it. Free steak with every 100 bullets" 💪

@klobiforpresident2254 don't open that can of worms. He drinks like a colonial. Shuffles feet and moves my tea with teabag still in to one side

In this episode of the drydock, the krigsmarine get a polish battleship sent at them. And they get to modernize the Nassaus! Yes. It really is a bad time to be a German

Another nugget of Sar Jim info. Thanks. The one thing I've learnt about ww2 in 20 years studying it. Is that there's always more to learn.

@sarjim4381 I had a similar experience growing up when I read about Alan Turing and his work on early computing. I began really learning about ww2 as the files on Bletchly park, the twenty committee and many other secret documents were becoming public access here in England/Britain. It was exciting. It fueled an interest I already had into computers. I was into early windows computing, building computers and such. The very early internet as well. The effort I put into makeing dial up not slow 🙄 But then I discovered race cars 😂. Now I really appreciate the effort that restoration societies put into keeping old tanks driving and even more so, old aircraft flying (older ships being sea worthy seems less applicable. But keeping them in good condition is appreciated). I know what it takes to keep a 25 year old race car working. God knows what it takes to keep a 70+ year old tank/fighter/bomber or other piece of equipment working!

1 yamato against the two Bismarck class, the Sharnhorsts, plus all the cruisers and destroyers not to mention the u boats. It'd be one sided all right. And not to the polish advantage 😂 I doubt the engagement would last more than 20 mins. Heck a single lucky u boat would more or less end it. A 4 torpedo spread from u boat sized torpedo's would probably put it down.

*u boat comment based on what happened to musashi when the us worked out they had to focus on one side of the ship with torpedoes. Arial dropped being much smaller than ship launched etc

@bkjeong4302 hence why I said a lucky u boat. It doesn't matter if the destroyers are crap. They carry torpedoes and a battleship can't get them all. Not when they have a large group of cruisers, 2 pocket battle ships and 2 Bismarck class. You can't point a 18.1 inch gun at 50 targets. Most of which carry torpedoes. It's game over for yamato. It will take several ships down with it. But it's loosing and it's loosing very quickly.

@bkjeong4302 if you want to take it to that level of "realism" then it's a moot point. So what's the point in discussing a single ship Vs a whole navy. Which is what we're looking at: A polish crewed yamato class battleship. Going to attack the entire krigsmarine. I'm well aware how bad some of the krigsmarine destroyer designs were. But suggesting they will fall apart by putting to sea is just silly. They are being attacked anyway. So can decide when to put to sea to meet the attack. Don't like rough north sea conditions? No problem, wait until it's calmer. (Also the fact that German destroyers could operate against the Arctic convoys really does show the fallacy of a sweeping statement about them all capsizing). The fact is. I don't see any situation where a single battleship can take out an entire navy. Unless said navy lines up to be sunk one at a time while setting themselves on fire and hammering holes in the bottom of their ships with pick axe's. It's just not going to happen. In a computer game maybe. But not in the real world

Did you listen to the start of the video 😂

Not sure what they could accomplish against the Atlantic wall. The guns on said Atlantic wall were very capable of sinking a sub in 1 shot. Assuming you attacked a section of coast worth attacking. And that's assuming the submarine isn't caught by S-boats, hits a mine etc. Not to mention it would mean the gernans would have focused even more on close in anti submarine patrols. Which the OSS would NOT have thanked the royal navy for. And you can be dam sure the OSS were causing the Germans a lot more problems than a submarine with a silly gun that's taking pot shots at some costal countryside would. I'm sure all these reasons, and many many more. Were thought of by the very smart people in charge of the conduct of the war. Which is of course why such a daft idea never happened. My point in all this: When considering these things, anyone interested in history should remember: The wars planning and conduct happened because the greatest minds of a generation put every effort into doing the very best they could. If they didn't try a stratagem. Then as a historian, you can probably assume it was for a long list of good reasons.

Interesting question but one that could never be answered. Is interesting to muse about though. The krigsmarine were the least nazified of the armed forces. But they were still largely ships crewed by young men who were brought up to consider the polish race less than human. Barely worthy of life etc What they thought when that happened who knows. Also, given the state the Bismarck was in at the time. I do wonder if anyone could even see what the polish were doing

You need to post the question in the pinned post for questions. He mentions it at the end of just about every episode. May help you out :)
