  1. "best warship in North America"... I'd give you that. "Best warship in the world". To quote Drachinifel. No, just No. They were very good at doing a job that needed to be done and being good enough to get it done. Exactly what's needed in a war. But they were very much not the best warships in the world. Look at what the RN and the French were doing at the time for god sake. It's understandable that the USN had fallen behind contemporary naval technology as it was busy fighting a civil war. But it had done just that. Fall behind. The ocean going navys of the world were well ahead of them at the time. Surely that's obvious?

  2. Thing is. It's called "world's worse warships" not "worse warships of the north American continent". They were good enough to do a job. Certainly didn't deserve to be on such a list as this. But they have a habit of being wayyyyy over rated by 'internet historians'.

  4. In the 3,000+ year history of naval warfare. Calling them one of the very best, without a very specific qualifier... Well it's a bit much.
