Quite a switch from log cabins, lol! Interesting. Napoleon III also invaded Mexico in the 1860s. The Cinco de Mayo holiday (the 5th of May) you may have heard of, commemorates Mexico's victory over the French at the battle of Puebla. Empires where quite the thing in the 19th Century. The replacement building reflects the same lack of style as many mid-century government buildings. I have an old postcard with a 1915 photo of the Los Angeles County Courthouse that was built in 1891). A Richardson Romanesque style Victorian building with arches and turret towers galore. My Dad grew up in LA, and said he remembered when it was torn down in the 1950s, to be replaced by the one you see in the old Perry Mason series. Dad said it had too much cumulative earthquake damage to be safe.

@rhuephus I'm in CA, so yes, a bigger deal here. My point was the Napoleon III connection. I have a friend of Mexican descent who is also part French.

@653j521 The LA County Civic Center is the building on thepolice badge at the opening of Dragnet. The LA County Courthouse is the one featured in Perry Mason; built in 1958, it replaced the Romanesque style building from 1891. It's been quite a while; both buildings are probably included in footage from both series.
