  1. We were there in June of 2019, but no photography was allowed inside the house. The restoration of the "oh so trendy at the time" green receiving room is wonderful. The dining room at the Carlisle House in Old Alexandria is very close in color, and that 18th Century home is also worth a visit. Mt. Vernon also features a farm, grist mill, distillery, and my favorite, the formal gardens. Quarters and work spaces of some of the enslaved workers are also reconstructed; displays identify some of them by name, and show what their lives might have been like. A difficult part of history, but I appreciate seeing the hard work of so many people acknowledged. On a lighter note, the view of the Potomac is incredible. It was very weird taking an Uber to and from Mt. Vernon...I felt like I should have arrived in a carriage.
