PATRIOT: The British VC is still made from a chunk of bronze, from captured Russian canons in the Crimea War. There is a documentary on the subject, presented by Jeremy Clarkson. His Father-in-law had been awarded the VC but never thought to tell his family.

Callow Cooke: The Hundred Years War took place between 1337 and 1453. So I would say no, George Washington did not take part in it. You have been misinformed.

@patrickshaw8595 : I heard a similar story from an American whose Father had been in the MP's. In Germany during the war. His Mother was German and her family had been in the Nazi Party. His Mother's brother served in the 10th SS, recruited at 17. The Uncle after serving a term of imprisonment in Germany, emigrated to the US and was financially supported by his Father. The Uncle had been a driver/cook in the SS. I suppose they tried to keep him out of the fighting, as much as they could, because of his age. It was an interesting, even fascinating story and must have made for some interesting conversations around the dinner table.

Zombie_Tanker19k: Who has stated they don't respect or understand? They are your service personnel, you should honour them in whatever way you see fit. Britain awards medals too, sometimes posthumously.
