I would agree, it is an appalling reflection on our National Honour. They should both, have been given , either a pension, commensurate with their rank, or a position within the British Military.

Zayne van Day: They could certainly have used those men rebuilding Britain after the war, absorbing them into our society. Britain was so broke after the war that rationing continued into the 1950's. They should have been offered British Citizenship after the war, in recognition of their role in defending Britain during the war.

Pat Marek: Despite the actions of our Governments. In the hearts of many British people, the Polish people are held in great esteem. Governments, not so much. The Lion in Winter, may be old and grey but our heart is still stirred by courageous actions and courageous people. God bless the Polish people, each and every one of them. I hope that we can redeem some of that lost honour by standing by our Ukrainian brothers. Who seek only peace and freedom, until they too, win their war against the forces of evil, that seek to subjugate them.

Bellemont Pierre: I may be mistaken but I think the VC is awarded by the Sovereign in person.

BC: After the war was over the military were largely demobbed. No need for large numbers of military during peacetime and it costs money to pay them. After the war, Britain was pretty much bankrupt. Rationing çontinued until the mid fifties. Other things were considered as a greater priority. Churchill was ousted as Prime Minister and a Labour Government installed, who were more sympathetic towards the Soviets. Europe benefited from the Marshall Plan. As far as I am aware Britain didn't. It was only under Obama's tenure as US President, that the UK paid off its Lend Lease Debt to the US.
