  8. You also noticed that until 9/11, these neocons didnt believed Iraq was a threat, and rightly so. If you are a gun nerd, you probably know from the Tabuk’s story that Iraq’s arms industry was nowhere threatening. Iraq only produced its domestic small arms in very sporadic numbers, seemingly exclusively as a political statement. Indeed, the first 3 digits of their serial numbers refered to their lot code in a production batch. It sounds already baffling, but after the yugoslavian technicians that helped them set up their factories left, quality control plummeted into a bottomless hole. I dont know about you, but I wouldnt take seriously a nation whose small arms industry cannot manufacture a single service rifle batch that doesnt feature loose trunnions and wobbly magazine wells. This is not Britain!!! Iraq didnt hired engineers who never shot a rifle before, they hired technicians who made a tankier off-shoot of the AK!! But they still managed to screw up. Iraq’s capacity to produce optical devices like scopes was also dubious. Unfortunately information is so scarce because all the documentation was destroyed, lost or stolen. But it sounds like Iraq probably didnt made their own optical devices, but rather bought them or flat out copied them. The short-hand resume of my argument is that Iraq couldnt even make small arms on its own, much less a WMD. And these days, American pretty much have no grasp on oil in either Iraq or Iran. Even Dick Cheney thought sanctions on Iraq/Iran were stupid back when he still ran an oil company.
