Do you listen? There is tuition available for comprehension. It isn't all about mediocre blockbusters. Live entertainment by people who can act or sing or play.People who support performances by people who actually have talent on stage.But I guess you can't see past crap like Mad Max, or a local version of Lethal Weapon or the latest in CGI yeah great.

@DanielSMatthews Mad Max is not a novel.Others like Walkabout, We of the Never Never, Wake in Fright to name a few are & is one of the reasons Mad Max does not stand up, as well as unconvincing acting, cannot sit through anything with Gibson in it.Shakespeare had benefactors in the nobility which for the time is akin to a government hand out but would you like to live in those times where life could be hard & short.No wonder people wanted some relief or a distraction.But the scenario you refer to is irrelevant here, live performances at actual theatres & out of town as well rather than Netflix or whatever, they don't need government funds.
