  11. According to Bruce Spielbauer: The NRA never, ever divulges such information. (And, if you think it through, you realize why they would never do such a thing. They need good P.R. right now, and not bad P.R.). Because nobody knows, this allows the gun enthusiasts to continue to claim (without evidence) that “no mass shooter has ever been been a member of the NRA”. We do know that Nikolas Cruz was a member — but only because he mentioned it to a reporter (Cruz at the time was boasting that he was the reason that his school’s rifle team had been awarded an NRA grant, when he made that statement in the local press). But the reality is we simply do not know, because the NRA is under no obligation to tell the truth. It’s a secret.
