  1. This madness didn't just happen. People promote it because they are terrified. They've been convinced that the madness will prevent something else which is so awful that the madness is preferable—namely, the election of a conservative government. The left has demonized conservatives so outlandishly, hyperbolically—and dishonestly—that many would almost rather die than see one in power. Big Brother did it, too, in 1984, by demonizing Emmanuel Goldstein.

  2. They're doing for the term "conspiracy theory" what they've done for "racism." Namely, overusing it so absurdly and so self-servingly as to seriously erode the legitimate meaning it had in the first place. Decent people now feel a need to reach for different words to express those things.
