  1. They all confessed to the crime. Their parents were present in the room with them (they all later recanted). They were convicted by two different multi-racial juries. The lead detective (Eric Reynolds) was black. He was never interviewed by either Ana DumbVernay or Sarah Burns. Detective Reynolds is the only city official who the boys did not sue, since he's black, so it would undermine their argument that racial motivations played a role. The boys' lawyers fought against the admission of DNA evidence (in its infancy at the time). Trisha Meili's doctor (Dr. Robert Kurtz) testified that there was evidence that the assault was done by more than one person. Sarah Burns interviewed him for an entire day, but refused to include his statements in her book. Meili's body had multiple hand prints of different sizes. Some of the boys had mud, grass and/or blood on their clothes. Meili herself testified she vaguely remembered multiple assaulters, before blacking out. All of the boys said the same thing under interrogation: they intended to rape her, but could not, as they could not achieve an erection during the heat of the moment. Only Matias Reyes (the thug who raped his own mother and murdered a pregnant woman) was able to do so. All the interrogation videos are online at the website central park 5 jogger attackers dot com. The boys had at least one parent present with them during questioning, and they were read their Miranda rights. Ana DuVernay lied. But I guess we still can't say they're guilty, because that would be rrrrrrrrathist .
