Crime rate has been on the increase all over Canada and USA even before Olivia Chow got into politics. Is Olivia Chow responsible for the high crime rate and murder rate in other cities in Canada and USA too? USA has a huge police force, but its crime rate is skyrocketing.

When going into bear country where weapons are not permitted, always have at least one can of bear spray that can be instantly accessed, preferably two cans, in case one runs out or stops working. It's also a good idea to have an air horn or an electronic siren on hand. A bunch of rocks on hand can be useful for scaring off a charging animal.

@JohnCampbell-rn8rz There is no better solution than bear spray, unless holding a shotgun. I lived and worked in the Banff and Jasper national parks, those are bear territories in Canada's Rocky Mountains, where there are all sorts of wild bears including great grizzlies. I trust bear spray more than anything else, aside from guns but guns aren't allowed there.

@tiborpurzsas2136 It appears that the bears are accustomed to being around humans and are aware that humans do not hurt them. There is no assurance that something will deter bears, but it is better to have something on hand than nothing.

@JohnCampbell-rn8rz Bears love pepper, a lot of it, so always bring along a few cans of pepper spray when going into bear country.

@JohnCampbell-rn8rz In areas where guns are not allowed, bear spray is your best chance to repel a charging bear. Aim for its eyes, the spray causes the animal to lose sight for a while, most likely the animal goes back the way it came from. Ask any well-experienced bear country hiking guide, bear spray is a must.

@maryjeanjones7569 Toronto is huge. I lived in many places there in the past almost 4 decades, I see crimes are happening in the city when those types of crimes didn't exist or rarely happened before. Should we take your words that Toronto is a very safe city or the Toronto police's words?

@maryjeanjones7569 Not every inch of Toronto is infested with crimes, but overall Toronto is very unsafe and its crime rate increased a lot compared to 40 years ago. The kinds of crimes in Toronto didn't exist or very rarely happened 40 years ago, but are happening almost everyday now. Not just Toronto but in the entire Canada overall, of course there are few inches here and there haven't got worse but those are places where residents are much the same or same type for all these years. Toronto and other major cities in Canada see a huge rise in crime.

@maryjeanjones7569 I lived in several areas in Toronto, I know it is full of many unsafe areas, there was one area near Dufferin Mall that seemed safe, one day I was walking back home from there, just about 2 blocks from my house which is in a supposedly safe area, some shots rang out from a house, I didn't see the shooter but some young people (the usual suspects) running away from that house, I was almost in between the shots and those running youngsters. And you must know about the case of a young girl who was living in the neighborhood around Lansdowne and Bloor about 20 years ago, she disappeared while walking home, a few days later the police found her remains inside a duffle bag floating in the lake, eventually the police traced it to a house near where she was walking home, she was taken in by a man living in that house, which was only blocks from my house. That was 2 decades ago, now Toronto is much worse!
