  1.  @chuckdeuces911  Do you find it odd that religious folks announce it constantly? What matters here is that good ppl can appreciate other good ppl regardless of their particular path or motivations. It's not helpful to morph non-substantial differences into disrespect or dislike. It doesn't have to matter what god(s) one believes in as long as we can agree on common core values of honesty, integrity, community and so on. There will always be at least some subtitle differences in beliefs among individuals or else we are just tools of one dogma or another, not real individuals.

Easy to romanticize about the past but it was FAR worse overall 50 yrs ago--our rivers were so polluted they'd catch fire, cities were burning from race riots and the war against the Vietnam war, murder, rape and violent crime was 2X worse. Don't even think about admitting you are gay, everyone was much poorer.

  13. Unfortunately for ME as a farther NorCali "lifer" (re-thinking that now) it must be the same one's who want to overhaul Cali government who are leaving 1st. I lean Libertarian, I'd start with a shocking slashing of regulations and regulators and cleaning up the streets, NO easy choices for homeless but status quo is not an option. And let folks take their own chances including with this flue.

How often do YOU make a tiny effort to talk to the neighbors, wave and smile going down the street, maybe pass around excess produce from your yard (I do that all the time). Take responsibility for your local scene! Instead you (most youth) are so buried in their stupid phone they don't notice the car that runs over them let alone be engaging and friendly.

Let me give you an example that removes the abstraction of money as most don't even know what that is: I'm like a "produce billionaire" in my part of town, very modest neighborhood. Instead of boring pointless lawns, I replaced them with a beautiful organic "food forest" such that I have huge surpluses of fruits, nuts, etc. FAR superior more nutritious than you can ever buy at the market. It takes a lot of work and investment. Your logic says that makes me to blame for the hungry ! Do you know what happens when you vote for the government to confiscate half my production? I quit and let it all die, there is no other way it can go and I refuse to be a slave to "the needy". GET IT NOW? The result of your advocacy IS equality, everyone will be equally poor. But I guess you already know that.

And Bezos will pay more taxes than the bottom 100 million Americans, simple FACT. I never made a dime off the poor nor did anyone else including the government, they are already living on MY WORK. Again--ANYONE can become wealthy in America. Wanna know how? Let me tell you how I did it because it's the common way it's done : I worked my face off straight out of high school at an under ground mine (OK, that mine detail is not common, but you get the idea) in the High Sierras, week on end of double shifts, 16 hrs a day became the norm. Saved every penny I could during the summers to attend subsidized Junior College the rest of yr. (yes I'm fine with my taxes going back to that) I drove a Ford Pinto, worthless econobox, didn't own a TV, nor stereo nor toy for yrs, rode my bicycle exclusively before my 2nd yr at JC. Struggled to get certified in welding as a back up to my eventual engineering goals and a way to create more money for my purpose. Yes I created that wealth , it was money that would not exist if I didn't sweat and swear to MAKE IT. I invested every saved penny in starting my own welding contracting biz and after yrs of struggle to get established and profitable went back for my engineering degree. ALWAYS living well below my immediate needs, always treating my customers with highest integrity and standards even if it meant I lost my ass on a particular project. Invested in myself and later in outside enterprises that I spent a decade studying to get my head around. (think Tesla) My money created more wealth for many others and myself, I still live in a shameful shack but it's all MINE and I can now look forward to building a modest, high quality house on my 'dream yard' now that I'm modestly wealthy. Anyone else can do similar in America. Tradesmen are in incredible demand, have been for decades. I can earn well over $100/hr just by myself and I EARN every penny of it. My customers gain as do their employees, they only want more of me than I have time and energy. (they joke they want to clone me, lol) Society as a whole gains from MY GAINS both with TSLA and my own tiny biz. I don't OWE anyone except to repay my subsidized education, infrastructure, courts, law, libraries and so on. Punish me TOO MUCH for being productive and I'll simply stop. Meritocracy is NOT OPTIONAL, I will not bust my ass to be in the same state as a druggy under the bridge tho I may well join them there. Hahaha

  38. You 2 obviously don't need any instruction but there's a art to hitchhiking: 1st: face traffic and make eye contact w every prospective ride. MUCH harder to pass you by that way. They assess your character and visa versa. If you walk, walk backwards when traffic passing. 2nd: attitude will make or break you, can't fake it, been 3hrs since last ride say or stuck in bad part of town? Might be difficult but must maintain positive attitude at all times. 3rd: obviously look clean and decent and don't bother after dark. 4th: don't waste drivers time, if they stop long RUN to them, often they pull over in less than ideal place and don't want to linger, otherwise it's just common decency, if you dawdle expect them to drive off. Naturally offer some gas money or whatever.

Viewing again few X::: some excellent horse maneuvers caught as well; 11:35 Look how well they take that 90 corner with front horses going wide to prevent trailing horses and wagon cutting corner, same for all corners. And the parallel parking, 16:05 rt. front horse goes up on the sidewalk a bit for similar effect. This team is spectacular. Just taking care of those horses is a significant job and expense, even when not 'utilized'.

Mono Lake was becoming like Owens Lake a few decades ago, salty barren dust bowl, due to LA water hogging, until a court victory against LA Dept of Water and Power, early '90's I think, mandating some creeks flow naturally into dying Mono saving that big unique lake. (Dad was part of the fight from Owens Valley side) It was: "The most resources to the greatest number of ppl VS the environment"...environment won one. The LAW Won. :D I once faced the Judge of Bridge Port CA for traffic infraction--speeding naturally, surprisingly it was a good experience.

  67. Property tax in Cali is based on the the value of the last time it changed hands bc decades ago as prices went up old folks were getting taxed out of their own homes. (there was something of a tax revolt and "proposition 13" was passed to that end in early 1980's I believe) THEREFORE two identical value homes can have dramatically different tax rates.
