  1. Ukraine joining the EU would help weaken the EU, but would also allow a potential "EU Army" to perform the role NATO wants on Russia's border. If Russia did concede these requests, it might be because the concept of "Ukraine" within the discussions has shifted. It might have shrunk and no longer include Russian-speaking people, for example.

  2.  @maligjokica  they were the only ones seeking peace before the war, and they have fought it with less violence towards civilians than the west was expecting, based on their experience in Iraq etc.
