I have several questions. Is armour always helpful? When PoW penetrated Bismarck's bow completely, nothing happened, the 14 inch shell did not explode, what an 11 inch shell maybe had done. I cannot believe that hull shapes are not important. German ship-hulls were more rounded than British hulls. (British turret-shapes were more rounded than German turrets) And British hulls were more rounded than the hulls of the Yamatos & the fast US BBs. This long-straight mid-aft section of the Yamatos & the Iowas seems to me very vulnerable for incoming shells. Those hull-shapes had oviously an impact on the seagoing capacities of battleships. Iowa could not keep up with Vanguard at the NATO maneuvre "Mariner" in 1953 during a heavy storm. And Washington had problems to exercise properly with the home-fleet. Why there are not so many British photos of WWI to check the battle damage on British ships? Are they blacked?
