This is the usual fairytale of the British pirates, who unleashed this world war. The Brits declared war over Germany and Germany declared in the following a no-sail-zone around the British islands. This is common use during a wartime, as the Brits did it themselves during the Falkland-war around the Falkland-islands. The Brits imported war-eminent goods on the Lusitania, so the sinking was a logical consequence. And this was nothing in comparison to the sovjet-sub-attack against Steuben and Wilhelm Gustloff in 1945. The British Northsea-blockade in WWI caused a holodomor which starved a half million German civilians to death. A common behaviour of the Royal Navy. A bottle-up will kill them.

@brabhamF1 Admiral Franz von Hipper was the son of a Bavarian pub-owner.... the lack of sea-warfare-tradition was the fatal factor for a miserable German officer staff collection. Crews were fine.

This was not a tragic sinking. It was idiocy not to respect a bottle up of the British islands. Or anyone heard of it, that passengers from the US reached Hamburg during the war by ship?

@Monsterknecht Obviously we do not debate about a technical ability, as a seaman and an officer. The German HighSeasFleet suffered under the social barriers later during the war. What Scheer managed, was to escape successfully a situation, he brought his fleet in. The seabattles between Russia and Japan demonstrated for everyone, that a higher speed produced a crossing the T. Without the slow cow Blücher, the Germans would have escaped at the Doggerbank easily, without a loss of 1k seamen dead. And without the slow pre-dreadnoughts at Jutland, Scheer would had been in a much better position to beat the Brits, instead to cross their T 2 times.
