$7/mo is high? Most people pay that per day for a cup of coffee/drink
6
@brtkcs Not yet...but it might get there. It's all an act though. Meet these people in person and most are NOT the same. They're just regular people
6
Could just dual boot which is easy and cheap these days
6
WE ALL know that, but he makes his own choices. As I sit here sipping my MT DEW
4
@BurkenProductions What free alternatives are available...Maybe try constructively criticizing to inform and educate. This is free up to 10 users though
4
@jacob1000 Just some little companies like Geico Comcast Ford Motors SpaceX Openstack AMD
4
Yep I agree that 1 action will likely push more to other options than anything in history. Although if I understand right one can still run WIN11 on old hardware. Just can't use the upgrade path. It requires using an install USB and a fresh install of 11...at least for now
3
Yea but...there's the global shutdowns and massive chip/product shortages that have crippled productivity for nearly all manufacturing
3
Don't know how shipping is but lot's of options cheap in US, I'll ship em to you if it helped

Welcome SKYNET, automated code creation/development, automated hacking, automated vulnerability scanning, automatic removal of the unnecessary slow downs--humans

@musicalmercy5204 A vpn server is just a computer on a network somewhere that is acting as a server which allows computers to connect to it. If you purchase NordVPN you get a username and login info and connect to their servers in whichever country you choose they operate in. If you do it at home you just run a vpn server on one of your own computers and connect to it from a Starbucks etc. Then websites see you as connected from your home not the starbucks. Or a Nordvpn server in Russia instead of the starbucks 4blocks away. It can mask your location and also secures it from the public wifi you're on for example. You can just watch a few vids of vpn setup to get a better idea.

The Pi 4 is a whole new animal and will handle everything better
2
@Kvantum What does Azure itself run on?
2
@Chrono Logic I watched a vid that showed excellent results of 5g waves blocked by hats lined with aluminum foil.
2
Pihut or element14
2
It's an act for the cam, like Patrick at ServeTheHome
2
You mean draw apps?
2
@therealroga First world problems :)
2
Just encrypt the data then nobody outside can read it. Or you could connect it to the network by a separate network switch...that switch is powered by a smart plug or just about any kind of light switch. Like a motion switch so you have to be in the room etc. When light switch or smart plug is on the network switch is powered and the server is on the network, when powered off it's disconnected from the network. Sort of an airgap effect
2
Sure, use Zerotier, Tailscale, Twingate, Openziti etc
2
Ya don't use block, ya use cephFS
2
@GregMcCoyUSC I would strongly recommend one that has or slot for 10Gb. since a single HDD can saturate a 1GB Network link almost 2x
2
Not very well
2
Windows can read\use exfat, the drive FS is irrelevant, the computers just transfer to it over OMV
2
The cool thing about Linux is you can get a SSD, put it in an appropriate USB adapter for it depending on type. Then DL and burn like Linux Mint to it. Then plug it into your computer and select as a boot device...then it will boot up as a LIVE OS. Essentially a whole different Linux Operating system on that SSD...yet your original windows is untouched. So it allows you to try out Linux or test/fix a system with ease. When you shut it down...everything is gone and it starts over the next time used like brand new. So nothing is stored. One can also fully install it to the SSD so it only runs when you have it plugged in and boot to it, but it saves everything like normal. So testing or learning without changing anything is very easy with Linux. I'd suggest LinuxMint or PopOS as a first Distro.
2
Once you have data transferred Rsync just transfers the changes which may not be much. but yes that's that basics
2
You can also Dual boot. So just use WIN for games and Linux for everything else...but I'm guessing gaming is about all ya do on there
2
might have to set it up separately then attach to omv...vaguely remember reading that. Kinda doesn't like setup on usb drives
2
Wow that's a lot of working days under your belt haha
2
old router, they usually run on 12v, just connect to a 12v plug
2
if you have an image of your omv disk, you can be back up and running in minutes with your data. Unless you have hardware failure, but a pi is cheap enough just have a 2nd one around
2
Repurpose an old router, they just run on 12v so attach to a power outlet plug, connect it all together
2
Kokey is freeky and cool at the same time LOL
2
If router fails, yes whole network fails. Main switch fails then yes whole network fails. 1 device fails the rest continue to perform...If you can't see the benefits then it's WAY over your head so ignore and keep using your Windows
1
@null-synapse There is because it restricts throughout to 1 pipe. So depending on the switch loads and network traffic it can severely restrict causing performance issues. If 2 devices have a 1 Gb load on switch 2 to to devices on switch 1 but there's a 1Gb pipe between switches, they'll each be cut in half. Vs all connected to the same switch giving full throughout for all devices. Other network layouts are much better and more efficient. But it does "work" and it's cheap and simple.
1
Or do it on the floor
1
Generally yes free...he's reached that level
1
And go to a chiropractor regularly probably more frequently in beginning to get your back back in line where it should be. I went for a total of 2 years or so...started in rough shape at 1x week then about 1x mo at end...never felt better/stronger. Then quit cuz drive was 40min 1 way...fast forward a few years pain and pinches all over barely get outta bed in morning. Time to schedule some appointments. They now frequently do Xrays at beginning and periodically, can see/measure your progress it's cool.
1
Yep and lean then kinda roll onto your knees and squat lift from there. But better yet...grab a friend or coworker
1
@NickDrone if you're driving power isn't an issue since your alternator powers everything. We're literally talking 20 watts or something
1
It's a persona for the video...like most of em develop
1
If it's connected to your router with wifi then yes, you just need network access. The pi connects by wire to router ideally
1
Yep a regular old computer can do more, but I like the low powered option for a backup. Hey MOM I'm gonna put this gaming computer that takes 200w constant at your house to hold my data...not a good thing. But hey ma, THIS one only uses 20w...sure ok hunny
1
not directly, won't work. Need a private vpn server on your home network along with a ddns so you don't need to keep changing your ip address of your house. most home routers will have that all for free
1
baby steps for people. oh I can save my data for all my devices all I need is a drive and a pi cool. oops I lost all my data from drive failure. AHH now I see why we need multiple drives and backups, gotta spend money for that now. It's all a process
1
ddns setup in your router, along with a vpn server for remote access to your home network. Most home routers can do both for free
1
Yes but ungodly slow transfer speeds
1
That's a lot of uh...Linux ISO's haha maybe time to delete a few mp4's I mean ISO's
1
editing will be slow at 1Gb transfers over the network
1
Yep need usb3
